What is a
"Corporate Congregation"
One ever-present problem is that of restricted resources.
In 1977 the Board broaden the base to gain support both
financially and from a Christian standpoint. Churches in the
immediate area of Blair were contacted about membership. These
congregations chose delegates to serve on the Board of
Trustees. These individuals have a vital part in guiding
policies and making decisions through the years.
At Good Shepherd
Lutheran Community, our mission calls us to join with members of the
greater community to make an impact in the community while fulfilling
our obligation to be good stewards to the residents who trust us with
their care. With those objectives in mind, Good Shepherd is
continuously evaluating the ministries of Good Shepherd.
In October, 2006, the
Board of Directors recognized an opportunity to create a larger
membership and have a more significant impact on the Community of Good
Shepherd by changing the By-Laws of the Corporation to invite other
Christian Churches, who support the mission of Good Shepherd Lutheran
Community, to appoint members of their congregations to serve on the
Board of Directors of Good Shepherd and as delegates to the annual
meeting.
Thus, the reason for
this letter is to share our appreciation and to recognize your
contributions to the success of Good Shepherd Lutheran Community. The
Board of Directors wish to extend an invitation to you to join the
Good Shepherd Lutheran Community as a Christian Church which supports
our mission:
The mission of Good
Shepherd Lutheran Community is to serve the social, physical, and
spiritual needs of God’s people in a manner of love, dignity and
respect reflective of Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd.
The Board of Directors
of Good Shepherd Lutheran Community would like you to share this
invitation with your congregation. If you would like to have a
representative address your congregation or if you would like to
attend one of our monthly meetings, we welcome you.
We welcome you to our Annual meeting on October 20, 2011 beginning at
7:00 pm. The monthly meetings are held on the third Thursday of each
month.
Auxiliary
In 1961 about 40 women met and organized an Auxiliary. Members of the
Auxiliary are represented from the Corporate congregations. Each year
the Auxiliary sponsor an Annual Ice Cream/Pie Social and a Wintertime
Tea. These annual events held throughout the year provide proceeds
benefiting the facility by purchasing many of the little 'extras'.
